Yes. The forgetting curve was first documented by German psychologist Hermann Ebbinghaus in 1885, showing that without review people forget roughly half of newly learned information within days. SmartRecall's SM-2 algorithm was published by Piotr Woźniak in 1990 as the engine behind SuperMemo, and is the same spaced-repetition method used by Anki. It schedules each review just before you would otherwise forget, so the number of repetitions needed for long-term retention drops sharply compared with rereading or massed cramming.
