The nephron is the functional unit of the kidney. Blood enters the glomerulus through the afferent arteriole.
Filtration occurs across the glomerular capillary wall into Bowman's capsule. The filtrate then passes through the proximal tubule, loop of Henle, distal tubule, and collecting duct.
Water and solutes are reabsorbed or secreted along each segment before urine leaves the collecting duct.
